Datnoid Lifespan?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats cool.. Only 10 years( on average ) though ? I thought they can push longer than that...

They all say 10+ my book and all the sites so I book it as 10 but you will have the exception, like all things some of us drop dead at 60 some go well over the 100 but I take it 10 years seams the norm.

The human life span has increased from about an average of 22 years(estimated)
2000 years ago to 44 at the turn of the 20th century. Currently, it is
difficult to tell due to the advancement of medicine to the point where the
average age increases years it seems. It is somewhere around 82 years on the
average.

so as fish keeping gets better and also in the wild it will not have food droped on its head and looking out for being the next dinner

That's strange. Bichirs can live like 30 years, and many fish much longer.

For a fish as slow growing as a dat, I really would have thought it would be more like 30 than 10.

hehehe the guy at my LFS has had em for years n years! he said that they are known to live to up to 30-35 years.. :P

They better live for 30 years.....

It could be 30 years before I see another one

the slow growth rate could be down to them being kept in a tank

anyone who keeps tigers knows that they will eat and eat in the wild they would be able to eat all day long makeing them grow much faster than the rate we see

I suspect there's some truth to that. The predominantly piscivorous diet in the wild could result in faster growth rates in nature. Hobbyists who feed their dats live feeders, CDM for example, have reported surprisingly rapid growth rates even in captivity.
