Also are there any alternatives to datnoids, I’m looking for a large predatory fish with a similar body shape and has the same personality as a datnoid but doesn’t get as big

Nandus Nandus, they have a very similar build to datnoids but only reach approx 7" maximum. Very similar personality, perhaps even more shy when they're smaller. Similar pattern but with a more blotched stripe-like pattern than a datnoid.

Yes Nandus nandus. Some shops here have brought them in and tried to pass them off as marbled datnoids but they are not related.I like them but not as much as dats due to their inactivity and their unwillingness to eat non living foods. They are ambush predators and only eat something that happens to closely travel past them. That has been my experience with them anyhow.

After looking at all the alternatives I’ve decided to go with an wild caught oscar, has anyone kept these with clown loaches and how big would the clown loaches need to be to not be eaten

Well that would depend on the size of the Oscar. If you want to keep those species together I suggest you get as big a clown loach as you can find as any small Oscar you get will grow in size fairly quickly. The clown loach is a much slower grower.

A two inch Oscar could reach nearly twelve inches within a year if cared for properly.Perhaps if you purchased some loaches that are a few inches bigger than the Oscar, say three or four inches, they may not interest the Oscar as it grows.
