Datnoids and pellets

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's a harsh way of doing it, but it works. I have heard of only 2 tigers dieing that way .... But that's only on threads found on mfk.

U need to use your own judgement too, if it looks like it's getting too thin after 3-4 weeks, I spike the pellats with prawn.... just once, then carry on just pellets. Then by week 6 they r usually converted.

mine is a baby, and has learned to eat them

i feed him bits of the tetra big cichlid sticks from wal-mart - the datnoid and other fish love them
with babies its really easy because there hungry all the time, i feed mine multiple times a day, but with my medium sized one its different because hes not as hungry and he hides, with big ones it becomes a little easier because they dont hide anymore

^ i like the "EAT OR DIE" method, i'm trying that now with all my Dats and my RTG!

Dont give up with your RTG buddy as it took me from when ive had mine 2years ago to get him on pellets and now he eats the hikari small floating ones but because they only come in a very small bag which would cost me a fortune im trying to get him onto a pellet that you can buy in large bags, even something like massivore which is not cheap but the bags are a decent size so choose wisely when trying to get him on pellets hth.

i have not had a fish die yet so until i do i will carry on with the eat or die method

My Smallest NTT got i'll. After 3 weeks of not eating none showed any interest in pellets. I has to put it in a hospital tank and treat it. I don't think the "eat or die" method is the best.

I lost a NGT via the eat or die method-not convinced as a result. I've a larger NGT and IT which will not look at pellets despite weeks of starving-I can't see how they're just suddenly going to start eating them.

I've also heard people talk about the 'monkey see, monkey do' notion but this is false-I've 3 other Tigers in the tank which devour pellets so I don't feel this works all the time. My Tigers that do eat pellets ate them the very first feed

Certainly here in the UK decent Tigers aren't cheap-we're not dealing with £1 Guppies here-and its at your own risk I feel if you starve them and it can hit your pocket hard.

But..

T1k can afford P13 stingray, Asian Arowana, and a ST, so a mere NTT, IT is like....

.... you get the picture!

;)

Try the marinate method.
Your dats probably love bloodworms, so put some bloodworms and small pellets in a cup and let them sit for 30 mins. The smell of the worms will rub off on the pellets and when you pour it in the tank, the dats will be curious and try the pellets. Keep doing it and eventually they'll eat pellets on their own without having to mix it with anything else.
