Datnoids or Central American Cichlids??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

If it were you what would you do?

  • Keep the cichlids. Dats have nothing on big aggressive cichlids like Trimacs, Festae and Jags.

I think NTT's can have a magnificent yellow, like in my above picture.

They are timid, but they have great personalities, begging at the glass for food all stable. I love mine.

Indos are prolly the most affordable, get some 2 inchers or sumthing and grow em out!! I did and its so much fun watchin them grow.

MY 6" NTT loves bloodworms cubes, but my 4" NTT has never looked at them twice.

PS they cant hide if u dont give them anything to hide behind.

I totally agree with you that they can be very bright that is why I said "tend to be a duller gold" and not "always are a duller gold":D

Also, I guess it depends on your location but everywhere I have ever seen dats will generally have Thin Bars cheaper then indos. I believe this is mainly because Indos "tend" to be brighter (note the use of the word "tend")
they have the most options as far as looks (3 bar, 4 bar, split bar ect.) and they will get bigger then a NTT

Also NTT seem to be the most readily available and easiest to acquire, which will cause the price to be cheaper then other species as well.

but again i guess it depends on where you are.:grinno:

Thanks a lot for all the good information. I really appreciate it. I'm feeling a bit reluctant because I will have to sell off some cichlids and I can't decide what to keep and what not. It's really dragging me down so everything is on hold for now but it is still in the pipeline. I'm going to read more Dat threads when I get some spare time and try to learn all about them. I WILL have dats. I just have to make some decisions and get a plan together.
