Isn't the rule 1 or 5+ in order to spread aggression?

never heard of or read this rule book, what works for some may not work for others.

to the OP just get the tank sorted and try a few small indos and have a go. they will last for quite some time in a 55g and you never know what's going to happen in a year or so.

and AJ do you even like datnoids or have even owned datnoids.

No, I'm not a huge fan of 'em, but I know people who have/had them, and they always seemed to go unstable or even worse at the drop of a pin. Plus I'm probably a little bit biased in the opposite direction, haha:grinno:

i've kept datnoids singly in 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's etc etc etc and have seen no major difference in behaviour.
when they are really small they hide a lot and come out for food when you put it in the tank.
some have been quite a bit different in size, temperament etc but still were ok with each other for the main part.
just give them places to hide, feel safe and most of these stupid so called rules mean jack and tend to be just people spouting rubbish others have spouted in previous threads.

Small dats ones are going to hide a lot, large ones will not last long in the tank. Not to mention getting a stable/unstable fish AND they can be finicky at times. But hey if you've got your heart set on dats go for it, just make sure you know what your doing and know that you will have to upgrade down the road.... if it that means very, very far down the road.

As for stocking, I recommend 1 or 6-7+ if they are small and the tank will have only datnoids. If enough "other" fish are included you can get away with 3, 4 or even 2.
