do i need anything on the bottom of the tank for them? (gravel, sand, etc)

I would say sand it seem people have better luck with datnoids when they have sand, and a couple lil hiding spot but not to much cause they will always hid and youll never see them

When they're unstable, they're about as interesting as driftwood...When they're active and stable they're the best fish in the tank.

its never enough unless you pack the crap out of the tank. i would rob kids to pick up these fishes. LOL jk.

whichever fits your taste. most people prefer sand makes them look more elegant when they are stable.

Super high water quality, and time.

I've had luck adding silver dollars for dithers and a decent ammount of water movement. I give them plenty of places to hide too.
