They have mohawks, huge mouths, dog like personality, nice arrow head shape,
beautiful pattern, challenging to raise, have not been bred in the states(from what I know), and are compatible with a lot of other fish.

First tme I saw a Dat was in the LFS. I can swear to you, this thing is gorgeous. They usually look plain on pictures, but when you see them in person they have outstanding coloration.

they get huge with great color and pattern make them look good in big show tank. Plus, they are not agressive towards other groups. They are also hard to come by as you don't see them in stores often bc everyone of them is wild caught unfortunately and their number is not abundant due to slow to maturity and no recorded captive bred. This drives demand up.

I agree with all of the comments above. They truely do interact with their owner. When I walk into the room and they haven't seen me yet my tanks look empty. Then all of a sudden out come 14 dats with their nerdy little eyes staring at you waiting for food.

Plus, you can't beat watching them stalk their prey and doing their little shimmy before they strike.

I like the way they stalk prey as well. The little ones are so cool when they go for a guppy. They follow behind it, then go over top and do a sort of downward flip/twist to grab the guppy head first. Really fun to watch.
