Dats and cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
is it advisable to add a female 2.5" dovii to a a group of 1"-2" dats?
in a 60 gal tank?

Cichlids are more aggressive and will usually take out their aggression on their tankmates. If the dat is there only tankmate, it will be targeted. I would recommend a much larger tank with more cichlids so they can target each other. Also, I would recommend that the dat be much larger than the cichlid. Female doviis aren't going to be as large or as aggro as the male dovii, but that combo sounds pretty risky. It may work for a short time, but don't count on it.

yep..tried it..first few minutes only, i had to take out the dovii. its out of the question now. thanks for the advice!

i've tried keeping an indo with an oscar and it didn't work out,i had to rescue the dat after it was severely beaten and it was a fairly aggresive dat as well i wouldn't try it again

aggression-wise it could work with something like large geos or fronts

I totally agree with you there.. larger, more docile cichlids... I'd also add severums to the list. 60 gallons might be hard to pull off, even with small dats/cichlids.
