Dats & Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ime none of my dats have ever bothered any other tank mate other than dats. That being said, when provoked, they will attack. As long as the Sevs aren't nippy you should be fine.

I wish they got nippy with him, but they never got the chance. Threw them all in and he went crazy..chasing them back n forth till i rescued them with the net. He's just much bigger then them and prob would of done some serious damage if i kept them in. Thinking about grabbing a few of the overpopulated sunfish from a local pond and testing them out for as long as it lasts. Maybe he'll get sick of chasing them and the sevs can be reintroduced.lol

You have to give them a little time. I know it can be scary at first. I recently put a 7" geo in with my dats and the biggest one(14") tried attacking it immediately. Continued to chase it and stalk it for about 3 hours and now he's fine. They have the need to establish dominance as they're very territorial so once the other fish are scared and realize this is his tank, they'll be fine. I would give it another shot and watch closely for a couple of hours.

thx strollo..like i mentioned earlier, i sold my big geos without even attempting to add them. One gd attack from him, and say goodby to those nice streamers they used to have..and goodby to selling them.lol

I'm gonna try a few things and hopefully he will settle down or i will raise another monster angry flowerhorn to keep him company.haha

I had a crenicihla sp venezuela with a datnoid (IT). The crenicichla was getting aggressive towards the IT so i divided the tank in half. I went to dinner 1:30h later I came home and the datnoid was dead neither fish had broken the net and the datnoid had no injury or fight marks.

Chances are, i'll be selling mine soon if things don't work out in my 300. My female died shortly after spawning when 2 of the males started to severely harrass her. They liplocked with her constantly and she ended up getting mouth rot...anyways if your in the Boston area ever, u can have them for cheap
