Dave Learns How to Take Photos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today was one of those days where I realized that even though the camera can catch decent enough shots for me to show off the fish, I'm still a crappy photographer.

I took about 300 shots and I can't say I like even one of them. Seems like with these new fish the color is much less accurate than the others, largely because I had to really crank the ISO to get them at all. That's really the only thing I've mastered the ability to change quickly on the fly so far... I know I can play with a lot more than that, but just in terms of what buttons in what order, that's not burned into my head yet.

Anyway, I added six new fish to the tank today, so I at least want to get some pics up. The body color of the wilds is not anywhere near as vivid as the San Merah, but I'm loving the striations. The blue matches up very nicely with the blue discus as well as with the Orangeheads. They kind of make the San Merah seem out of place though... my hope is that they'll color up more, be redder, and the three types of fish will all blend together. (Meanwhile the younger San Merah range from bright red to cantelope color and back within minutes. They're weird. And not really the greatest discus specimens. I may not keep them.)

The largest new guy is already settling in and bullying the other fish. I think he's going to end up being named Brutus. He's the large brown one in the shot with the big male San Merah. In the photos their colors seem to match up a lot more closely than in real life. Seeing these guys really makes me appreciate just how beautiful these San Merah are. I may have to go back to the original plan of having them in their own tank.
