David R's 2000L tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That would sorta work, but the last sheet is sagging back and resting on the glass panel, which [I think] will be restricting some of the flow through it. I'm hoping a friend still has a bit of egg crate spare, you can't buy the plastic stuff here (only plastic coated aluminium) which has made me rather annoyed on more than one occasion!

Good luck to you man.
I can't even find any egg crates here. I use foam sheets and drill holes (what a PIA!) in to to make drip plates hahah....

Front, I think there is a stock list in one of the first posts of this thread.

PJ, I'm planning on making a big tangled pile of wood and rock on the left side to create a bit of cover for the plecs. I've got plenty of wood in my 400L tank plus more soaking outside.

Just caught up - it seems like you're doing really well, i checked the video out and it seems quiet enough, i always find by the time you put a face on the stand and a hood on top you've lost most the noise anyhow.

I've also had a plumbing leak - mine has been a nightmare however, i've used putty which i think has covered it but i might go get some silicone like you have and just put a bead around and push it in with my finger to really make sure i've got the bleeder!

What's happening about the lighting now? Another spot light to stop the shadows?

The wood is amazing looking by the way, looks really nice and i'm glad to see it's finally sunk - sometimes i've had wood in for months which wouldn't go down.
Sand looks good too - definately different to the stuff i was talking about but very nice all the same

Cheers Bones! The lighting, hmm. Don't really want to add another spot as I think it will be too bright. I'm nearly wondering if there is too much [intense] light already. I had a little play around tonight with the floodlights lifting them up above the tank, this pic shows just how bad the shadows are;

It may not be quite as obvious when the water has cleared up a bit, but I'm still not happy with it. The best result I had was with the two lights mounted about 40cm above the lids both in the centre about 20cm apart. It makes the middle portion of the tank really bright, but minimises the shadow effect from the bracing. I'll experiment a bit more tomorrow when I rig up something a little more stable to support the lights.

I put the pond matrix in the sump tonight, looks good and doesn't restrict the flow. Only thing is I don't think I rinsed it thoroughly enough and there's a bit of fine residue in the water, and I'd swear the pump is a little louder than before! I pulled it apart and can't feel anything in there grinding, I'm sure it's just my imagination...

:nilly:

Is it the wuring noise from the pump or water movement? If it's the pump directly is something possibly reducing flow and causing more pressure on the pump?

From the picture you've uploaded those light look very nice to be honest, it's that amazon biotype thing going on isn't it.

Have you got the poret standing firm now? not flopping over?

After I posted that I when and held the pump in my hand and it was a lot quieter, I think I just need some foam or rubber mat for it to rest on.

The problem with the lights are the two dark V shaped shadows coming down from the braces. In person they are even more pronounced than in the low quality pic taken with my cell phone and look terrible. I'm sure I can make it better with different angles though.

I haven't done anything with the poret yet, I'm picking up a piece of egg crate from a friend next weekend (it is near-impossible to find here as all the stuff used commercially is plastic coated aluminium). which I'll use to support the last sheet.
