This could take some time...

Dont you love sitting there watching the water fill into the tank at an amazing speed wondering if the tank is going to hold water or bust? hahah

Looks good man as per always, the roots on that wood are wonderful also.

Cheers! No it's not full yet, Going to do about 25% per day over four days just to allow it to settle gradually. Tonight's job is cancelled and we got in at a reasonable hour this morning (4am) so once this coffee kicks in I'm going to get building! Hopefully have plumbing and cabinet done by the end of the day, but you know how it goes sometimes...

Got about half way thru the cabinet for the sump.

Then realised I hadn't drilled holes for the drain from the sump, the return or the power cords. Not sure how I'll do the cords, ideally I'd like to have the multi board outside the cabinet so its away from the humidity, but it depends how long the heater cords are. My wife also came up with a good idea, I was planning on putting ply doors on the front, but she suggested three sliding glass panels so you can see the sump without opening the doors. It wouldn't be quite as insulated, but would look way cooler!

*edit* this pic is a great illustration of how unlevel concrete floors can be! The stand for the sump is shimmed do dead level, while the wood across the front of the cabinet is sitting straight on the floor...

I also put all my spare wood in the tank, I'm not going to use it all and there's still more in the 400L. The big stump has dried out and is floating, hope it doesn't take too long to sink!

You'll have to make sure that sump is nice and clean and well organised now then if it's going to be on show to demonstrate how excellently well engineered the whole system is.

My sump is a right mess, i even have 2 fish living in there.

25% fill a day is actually a good idea - i should have done this instead of throwing a few K litres of water in all together

Looking forward to seeing your sump running too! I'm redesigning for my 1700L when I set it up.
I see you decided against a closed loop system; any particular reason why?

If I lived in the US I probably would have gone with a WLim glass bead filter, but the cost and hassle of shipping it half way around the world just wasn't worth it at this stage.

Just thought of something - you can extend any short cords by soldering extensions onto the plug and sealing them with shrink wrap. I wish companies would get with it any use longer cords too!

Tested it last night and the heater cords will be long enough to get out of the cabinet, just! You're right about things needing longer cords though! I don't know what your building codes are like in the US, bit here wiring stuff like that yourself can void your house insurance! It needs to be done or signed off by a registered electrician, which is a PITA as I need plugs and longer cords put on my led lights.

What a bummer!

I just cut the wire and add some cable on - i've got no experience with this type of thing, electrics is just a risk i have to take :P
