Day of the cheap ac110 over?

I've been looking all over and can't find one for less than about $70. They were even $79.99 at big als.

Am I missing something? I'll probably go for the Emp 400 if I can't find the acs cheap enough.

Found one on ebay for $43.99 shipped. That's pretty good. I remember $79.99 very clearly though when I picked a couple up last year. I have since moved to the Rena's. XP series.

Root cause:
1 - Too many people saying it is way better than all the other filters (more so when the AC110 was far less expensive). That drove up demand and also allowed retailers to price it as a premium filter.
2 - No reoccurring source of revenue from filter media replacement. So they make up for it with upfront revenue (higher purchase price).
3 - Too many people recommending adding one or two AC100's as an adjunct filter; again driving up demand.

Yup, dont forget to tack on the inflation of the past couple years and there you have it, 80 bucks. The AC fanboy club will tell you that you will spend thousands of dollars a year on replacement media, when you could just grab some of these

Put poly fill in them and bam more than enought bio filtration and with the poly fill in there its better mech than a AC. As far as all that "expensive" replacement media all the AC guys claim you MUST buy for an emp. You might spend 5 bucks a year on quilt batting/polyfill.
