Dead Armatus at about 10"

What's so funny? Sometimes tumors to females being egg bound can cause a fish to die. If its a female it doesn't need a male for it to have eggs most fish absorb it and some will just lay without a male. Also their immune system is weaker when carrying eggs that can cause issues. A blockage to swim bladder can be fetal. Not sure why your laughing out loud. I'm just trying to help. Being a vendor you should know a thing or two and contribute rather than laughing.

Why would an immature fish be "egg bound" ?

Not sure this is surprising... There are more cases of Armatus up and dying for no reason then there is cases of them lasting more then 3 years. I've kept enough that I actually expect them to die for no reason.... Seems almost all of them do.

I may have be wrong then its just a possibility that I was thinking of from personal experience breeding and keeping cichlids. Armatus are immature at 10"? I didn't know that but that being said if it immature I retract my statement.

From the statements it probably did just die from hurting itself or for no reason.

As DB junkie stated. It's common occurrence. Why I laughed at your comment. Which has nothing to do with this army death. If you ever owned one in which you prob never have. Your input means nothing.

Has anyone every tried keeping them solo to see if that helps? What about padding? I know some folks that have put poret foam on the sides of the tank to stop their fish from bashing heads.

I echo this too given the fact the water parameters are good, other fishes not affected by the food and no visible injuries.

Sorry for the loss. Perhaps you can pick another one to grow out...I believe they are in season now and the sizes are about 4-5 inches found over here. :)
Thanks Red! I have another one that's the same size. I just wanted the pair to succeed.

Hey DB junkie DB junkie if you had to do it again, when your first Armatus passed would you have isolated the second one to another tank by itself? Or do you just think it was inevitable that the other one was gonna die?

I'm actually considering just keeping the other one that I have solo, but just like everyone else that has kept them, IMO I don't think any kind of padding will prevent them from injuring themselves.

Nope. I thought about it but the stress involved in moving 20" Armatus makes it not worth it.

Maybe IF they were kept solo people would have better luck with them but still things happen outside the tank that could spook them just as much. I have ZERO desire to raise a single fish though. Would much rather have fish I don't have to worry about dying for no reason like a Dorado.

Will definitely try them again but would like to have a massive tank first......
