im worried too. i have never had a fish die from unknown causes. im freaking out because i dont know whats wrong

i retested my water, added some cycle. tests showed traces of amm and nitrite but were probably from dead CL

I started quarantining my new pickups. I don't want to lose all of them over a couple newbs.

I learned that lesson a long time ago. Had some big clown loaches that were 3-4 years old. Then decided to buy some more to make a clown loach only tank. I put the old one with the new ones and a few weeks later they were all dead from ich infestation.

i found another dead 4" loach today. he's been floating in there for at least 2 days. (stinky) no aparent bites, burns or disease. i'm not buying any more fish for a while. im going to see how this problem progresses.

Interesting...

I wasn't able to check all of my paramaters today because I'm out of some of my tests. Ammonia and nitrite are zero, but that is to be expected. pH is 7.1.
Benson, may I know your nitrates? What brand of test kit are you using? I hope you are using liquid test kit for the sake of accurate results. How often do you change the water? Tank size and tankmates? Please post more details. Lacking one and you cannot get what exactly cause their deaths.

Include foods and schedule of feeding please.

Few possibilities:
1. Aggression-It is possible that the new one you added which is bigger, as you said, from the current ones moved them out of their territory.
2. Stress-Result from #1.
3. Sudden jump in water parameters-It may not be your ammonia and nitrites but what about your nitrates? Answer my first paragraph.
4. Decorations-Any pictures of your tank?

Toehead has an almost similar situation so he is free to answer these questions as well.

I had a similar situation when I moved some of my larger CL's around, lost one for no reason had him about a year he was 5" -6" when I moved him in with a couple of larger ones in another tank...as you all know I have a nitrate problem because of my tap water however I had this fish awhile....I need to do some more reading . My question is do CL's have some type of pack , pecking order I might have upset..?..........stress can cause death as well as physical reasons. Any thoughts?

Clown loaches establish pecking order among themselves but it's not that often that some clowns are capable of bullying another to an extent that the other could no longer defend itself and eventually dies from severe stress.

How high was your nitrate? Without too much details, we're stuck on square one.;)
