Dead Fish One After One After One...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would contact someone from your city/region and ask if any chemicals had been added over the normal amount/in addition, lately.

cities are terrible for adding chems to their water and not informing the population. it could be as simple as upping the dosage of chlorine or chloramine, or adding something else entirely. if you did any water changes while this was in effect and were only dosing with water conditioner for the amount you normally do, it could be why some fish were dying.

we've had this happen around where i live, it wiped out most of a LFS's stock in my city, and another LFS in another city lost a ton of their stock too from another incident.

i always double or triple dose my tanks when doing water changes simply for that reason. it's better to be safe and use a little more, than to be sorry and lose all of your prized fish.

I lost I think 13 Datnoids from 6" to 15" last year due to this during the summer. Right after the water change the Dats were coming up dead one after another. I was talking to another mfk member on here and he had the same issue. Since then I have always added more than Im supposed too. Watever the cause I hope its gone.

agreed, i hope it ends. sorry for your losses.

i truly believe that cities should have websites or ways to warn its population, especially fishkeepers, about increased/added chemicals to the water supply. especially since if this happens, you can't replace the fish, claim insurance, or go after the city for not warning you. we have the right to know what's being added to the water for our healths and the health of our fish.
