I never run my heaters in the summer. I am always battling the heat, because a lot of CA cichlds like temps in the lower to mid 70s.
Its always good to provide a decent amount of airation. You can use air pumps/bubblers or water circulation fans to help reduce CO2 and provide more oxygen. Live plants help as well if your fish won't destroy them.
