Dead front...?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its possiable it was a accident , he could have been chasing another front (I watch my alpha when they can see me and they are angels then at night in the dark when they dont know im watching they are darting all over the place lightning fast nipping at eachother and being butt heads etc.. He could have accidently wedged himself in and then when he passed and his body relaxed there was enough space for you to slide him out.

Ah...wonderful. That's quite interesting information, I don't think that Fronts are the best fish for me if that's the case haha. The location of my aquarium is sort of in the middle of the room, I had always read that the fish would be come comfortable with the "crowd" provided they had plenty of space to get away. I haven't seen any signs of stress from it at all, and there's plenty of rock in the tank for them to hide it. Most of the time they don't even flinch if you approach the tank.

Duly noted, thanks Mike.

im sorry for the loss

. I have had mbuna jump when the sun was covered by a cloud.

but that made me laugh

Eh not many, it had been just under 2 weeks since the last one and I run dual filtration for extra bacteria and whatnot. I think I changed maybe 10 gallons? We have really good water where I live, it's never been an issue before.

sorry to hear that,
but i think it has to be a rock, maybe not even the same one he was resting under
but the same happend to me, i had one front just die for noe reason. its fins were intact and a tank full of healthy fish...its the only possible explanation

It really is quite amazing how fast fronts can move in a fishtank. I was watching my alpha bother another front and they move like lightning, super fast. I could barely keep my eye on them while they were darting , so if he did get spooked at something and run into the glass or one of the rocks with his head it could have easily killed him and left no marks on the body. I suspect that is what happened , you will likely never know for sure but that is highly likely given he has no marks, all other fish are fine and the water parems are good. Sorry that it happened, its always sad.

I've had some fish get trapped under rocks and die. Sometimes they can get into a tight spot but can't get themselves out. I'm really sorry for your loss. Fronts are beautiful fish!
