Dead mandarin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How long has this system been set up?

What size system with how much live rock?

What are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels?

Are all new additions quarantined?

How long did you have this fish?

Did you notice any abnormal behavior or external symptoms prior to death?

Did you notice any weight loss?

Have you had any other recent fish deaths? If so, to what did you attribute those deaths?

Have you witnessed any aggression between these fish?

I think answers to these questions will get us closer to figuring out what happened.

:iagree:
Oh ya! I remember seeing your 50 gallon thread you posted a month ago or so. That tank still looks relativly new.

Did you ever notice if the Mandarins belly was pushed in or not? What did you feed him?

Ok so it's a 50gal with 60+lbs of live rock, 50lbs of live sand, and 50lbs of sand, 20gal sump, I used DI h2o w/ h2ocean salt I put a lot of trigger pods and water from preveiously set up tanks.

I saw the wrasses harassing him as I released him he was alive the following day and then the day after that he was dead. I haven't even had him for 48 hours.

If you only had him for two days, it's unlikely that he starved to death.

Perhaps some more research prior to stocking would be in order. This tank, IMO, is now fully stocked, anyway.

Are you indicating that you do not QT new additions? This can be real trouble. If you're going to follow my advice, and avoid stocking any more fish, then there's no need to worry about it, but if you do choose to continue stocking, you really need to set up and run a QT in order to decrease chances of illness/disease to the current inhabitants.

How do you get off blasting somone for their "uneducated opinion", when you asked for their opinion without first educating them? All you gave was your stock list and the fact that one of them died. Then you asked for opinions.

so are you saying that it couldnt have been starving where it was before ?

I'm saying it is unlikely. That's what I said. It's unlikely.

uhmmm

i think thats its more likey that it was starving before

but what you said is possiable

How did you acclimate it? I find that many of the "my fish died right away" customers move the fish in way too quickly, especially if your LFS keeps their salinity down, which is a common practice.
