dead pleco!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nitrites shouldn't be showing if your tank was properly cycled. Yes nitrites can harm and potentially kill stock. I've had quite the opposite experience with pleco. I've never had one that doesn't love vegetables. Also, the veggies are great for them but do not contain all the nutrients the pleco needs to have in it's diet like the wafers do. My tinfoils used to eat the damn logs I put in too so I'd just throw in enough to fill their mouths and then a couple extra. Or get a large one that the tetras can't eat.

thanks jon m! but i noticed one of my serpae tetras is swimming funny. its gotta be the nitrites. i found some amquel + that i bought a while ago so i added some of that. hopefully that will lower them. it said with one treatment it will lower 2ppm. kinda doubt that lol but hopefully it will lower it some

okay i tested the water and to my surprise the amquel lowered it! its only been about an hour. its not quite at zero yet but its getting there. okay so i added a FRESH peices of zucchini to the tank. my pleco loves it. hes been eating it for about a half an hour now. how long should i leave it in there without having another nitrite or even an ammonia spike?

i NEVER feed my common plecos and they al seem to do fine... even when i do a full out tank clean with not a bit of alge it is always ok
