so i have a question for everyone that has a setup with a sump running in the room they sleep in... even with a dead silent setup like the herbie and beananimal how do you deal with the motor noise without going out and buying one of those expensive high end pumps like quietone, eheim & etc. ?
do u have a dead silent sump if u do tell me how please, also for my pump which is a rio 3100 loud as hell i put a sponge under it or foam and it really makes it almost silent
I cut out 2 filter pads and a sponge. Sew them in the order -> Pad, sponge, pad and place it below the pump. I know some LFS sell those high quality vibration reduction pads, but I'm more of a DIY and money-saving guy

yup dead silent besides the dam pump motor noise... i dont even hear water trickle noise from it since i have the drains submerged in water & have all these filter pads stuffed inside a thick filter sock inside another filter sock lol... i even have the pump covered with filter pads...lol btw imo rio pumps sucks... i have a rio 32 hf pump and i said screw this and replaced with a korean brand pump which is a lot quiter then the rio... but still when i sleep & nothing else is on like music it rlly annoys me... btw what kind of sump setup are you running?

i wasn't talking about the noise from the pump vibrating i was literally talking about the pump "motor" noise... lol my pump doesnt vibrate even without padding underneath it since i have suction cups to firmly plant the pump on the tank floor. though i do have a pad under it haha a high grade AAA japanese one at that too lol
i have a wet/dryi put a pad on the drip plate and the tank is right behing my bed and at night it is loud even with my durso sttand pipe and 5 inches of insulation in the stand,is there a way to modify my sump to be silent or do i have to make one.
lol dynamatts why didnt i think of that? but they're freakin expensive... i would have to get about 35 + sq ft & do the entire inside of my stand and on top of that get double sided tape to stick it on or staple it... any other cheaper methods? maybe some egg cartons? lol (hella ghetoo)

whats the noise thats bothering you? water noise? rattle-ling/vibration?
can u open the top?
anyways this is what i would do... cheapest method i know
water noise:
if i can i would add 2 more drip plate so you have 4 levels of filtration similar to that of a canister filter... (top to bottom) mech/bio/mech/bio. also i would put a thick filter socks right under the drain (found out this will reduce the water noise from the drain drastically or completely stop it...)
rattle-ling/vibration from pvc pipes:
you can go to home depot or any other similar places and buy pipe insulators and put it on; on all the pvc pipes. ( doing this will reduce or stop the noise completely)
rattle-ling/vibration from the pump:
well you already know... add padding underneath the pump
motor noise from the pump: ........ i wanna know this too in way thats not too ghetto like egg cartons or too expensive like audio bass matts...
hope so these are methods that ive tried before so its info based only from my personal experiences while other people might have said differently. heh
