Deadliest Animal On the Planet (next to man of course)

Sharks should never be on a list like that. More people die from bee stings, lightning strikes, vending machines and coconuts falling on them than from shark attacks per year.

and most of it is all sensationalized.. great whites.. yeah right.. there's only 60 or so reported fatalities yearly.. more people are killed by bees

That list is tottally wrong and incomplete. The number one killer ( in numbers of killings attributed to it ) continues to be the hyppo. Then there are tons of smaller critters like those ausssie octopuses that are way up the ladder.

White sharks kill a minimal number of people per year....

The list is not talking about the number of people killed, the list is talking about the number of people killed in relation to the number of encounters. If you look at it in this way, the list makes complete sense.

Nope, my friend...then it is hyppos all the way ( and they're not even in the list )

If you are talking the most DEADLIEST I think it should be what is most deadly to humans not what bites them or which one kills the most- doesnt necissarily (sp) make them the deadliest.

Anyways I think box jelly should be number one... imo

What you are mentioning is all relative to the area in which one lives.
I have never even seen a hypo in the wild. (eastern U.S)

Nor do i fear skeeters carrying West Nile virus (again Eastern U.S).

If you live in an area populated by dangerous jellyfish (would you fear hypo's?)

The List doesn't work on many levels (mainly because of the GWS being on the list. (powerful, amazing, and deadly- but not a danger to human's. (visa versa infact) and being that a creature like that is put on the list, it just adds more effect to average peoples perseptions and fears of these animals, when we kill somewhere in the 60 million sharks a year to 60 people). I Don't remember the exact stats but i saw it in someones sig here.

I have a terrible phobia of sharks, which goes back to when I was around 5 and almost got bitten by a hammerhead (basically my dad got the idea that he'd lift me over the side of the tank so I could "tell Daddy if the shark is in there." It was in there, and they jump very high. Now Seaworld has railing and such so that no one can do this.) Anyway, it's so bad that even seeing pictures of sharks makes me cringe and want to die. However, being as scared as I am of them, I can separate fact from fiction and I agree that great whites don't belong on this list. That is, unless they're talking about sheer killing-ability, whether or not it's made use of?

I don't know, but I think they got #1 right. I hate Mosquitoes soooooooo much.

Wuss... :grinno:

you need to go shark fishing. they really arent that dangerous.

Seriously go shark fishing, best way to get over a fear is to face it. Unless you talk to a shrink then they just want you to come back in to pay them money.

In fact, catch a shark and bite its heart out and eat it, that way you gain its courage and make sharks fear you.

I did eat shark once. That was very empowering. Lol I'm too scared, though. I surf, and I can't even be out in the water for more than like 30 minutes at a time or I get paranoid. Also, deep water scares me. I'd never be able to go out deep sea fishing. It would be nice to kick a shark's corpse around, but I'd be too worried that it would come back to life and get me... or that its mouth would somehow fall and bite me.:screwy: I know it's not logical, but I did say it was a phobia.

In fact, it's so bad, that when I went to the aquarium with my ex, we had to pass under the shark tank to leave and I started crying and he had to carry me out because I couldn't even look around to walk. It's terrible, but I can't do anything about it.
