Dear Crystal ball, Where do the cichlids go?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dead, that's why they lay so many eggs

In the hobby is just as dangerous as in the wild for these creatures. But the hobby is more cruel on them. We bring them to life and they die in a tank with no option to swim off and away.

Ha ha I agree with the last two posts.

yeah me too. Sound pretty true.

That sucks.

I just keep thinking of these Umbees. I remember ppl were breeding umbees and had fries all over. I even bought fries in different years. Right. I did not have patience and room for them to grow into the specimen I pictured. I traded them off. But I know they went somewhere.

in captive, I think breeders should calm down with the same breeding. Like Not let the pair breed again until they know what to do with the current batch.

But I do love it when I go to a FS and see a big cichlid. They are the survivors.

thanks for inputs

Ha, uh, uh, yo, check it.....
The shame is when they get beaten, eaten or mistreated,
get sick develop legions for no apparent reason,
torn fins, parasites, stop eating
when it all could be cured by a quick treatment
or better yet avoided, it's the way you keep em
That's why some fish get diesel
while some others look like little weaklings.
You could call it a game but i aint playin! Boi!

Now the only things that the two of you need to get your rap career started are Kangol hats, gold chains, Adidas jogging suits, a boom box, and a time machine to take you to the 80s. You'd have a real chance on Star Search!:grinno:

LOL nice rap. I'd imagine at least 80% of them kill eachother or are killed by other cichlids. This seems to happen alot. There was a pair of midas that had kids at the pet store where I worked. I got a few and took it upon myself to find out what happend to them when they were gone. Of them, one I know is in a tank with small mbuna now. One was the last survivor after a guy tried to put too many in a small tank. The only one that wasn't sold at the store got gill flukes and died because they didn't treat him (I no longer work at that store for this reason)

Out of the remaining four I tracked, one was killed by its older brother, one died of I'm not sure what disease, one was eaten by my knifefish (lol, don't flame me for that it was a little .50 baby), and one was killed by a flowerhorn.

Of their parents, they spawned once more and then the father killed the mother.
THe father is still at the pet store.

THis is what happens when you try to put big cichlids with big attitudes in small tanks.

Sad, but true.
