All I use is live rock and skimmer on one tank not even a skimmer but, it's lightly stocked with not fish at all.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Im going to go ahead with my sump idea. I dont want to have to look at the heater and the skimmer plus, more water volume will be beneficial.

If you can put something together that includes a fuge--even better! Nitrates will be very low or non-existant.

i would start without the fuge first. I hate them for starters but they can also cause problems in a tank that is starting. when you have been keeping a reef for a while then you can always try one but i would hold off for now.

i don't have a fuge because i don't keep poo as a pet
