Hi all I been keeping rays over 3 years with success I have bred them 3 times and kept a pup from each batch. My problem being is the smallist of them is 5 inch and about 4 month old now and eats well but tonight she's acting very very strange , she flicking up and down and trying to curl over her self all water is fine and other rays are fine .. Any ideas ??

If not death curl which is unlikely if the water is fine then I would look at some irritation.

Check some of the more odd parameters with new test kits, nitrate, phosphate, copper if you can and test the water supply. Maybe get a different dechlorinator that removes chloramine and do some big water changes.

Any other tank changes?

Assume nothing and check everything, if ph has always tested fine for 3 years then check that. What has changed recently?

you have a huge arowana and shark in the vid. just saying.

seems to be shuffling backwards to get to the other side of the tank..... have you tried turning it round ? :D

seriously though , no idea. does it feed as normal when you put food in ?

Ye feed yesterday Fine maybe she knows I put her on classified adds and don't wanna leave me and she's showing me she can moon walk stingray style.. But on a serous note I have never seen this before looks like I will remove the add just incase ...

hmmm never seen or heard of anything like this. maybe like when babies can only go backwards before they can crawl forward? idk

my large leo/hen female does this. they just keep going backwards while searching for food. its pretty funny lookin but i wouldnt worry about it

u try feeding while she is doing this?

The comment about the large arrow and shark by Lix is possibly right on..the large rays don't feel threatened but the little one may be scared for its life...rightfully so.
Or....some kid of irritation ( agree with Toby)
possible gill flukes?
Probably best to isolate the little one either way

Thanks all she as made it through night so I will just keep a eye on her .. The shark and arrow and never bothered her and she's a big fighter for food ..
