Now that you mention it, Tigrinus, I installed a new cannister and on sunday dumped a bottle of "beneficial bacteria" - a third of the tanks capacity - in the tank.

Could that have had anything to do with it? ( i doubt it )

I don't think changing your filter did it neither.
 
I did not add that it was the third cannister I changed. The other two were kept unaltered.
