sorry for the late update guys. Ive been really busy this past week with school and finals. Anyways, the day after i posted this thread, the wels only got worse. He developed a sore making me think tat it was an infection like some of you had mentioned. Seeing his worsening condition, I decided to euthanize the guy to put him out of his misery. When I pulled him out, I was shocked at how big he had gotten. MEasured 14" across and had a huge mouth. I got him when he was only 5-6" :(

Sorry for your loss bro :( it mite be worth treating your tank with an anti internal , or at least a big w/c and some salt or melafix just incase there's anything lurking about still
I only say this because I got a serious case of velvet disease in my tank not long ago lost my aro and a week later two cats went even with treatment , hope this is not the case and the rest of your stock is fine

My sympathies.

Can you, please, cite the exact growth rate, that is from 5"-6" to 14" in how many months? And what temp it was kept at and what he ate and how often?

FWIW, just a reminder to OP and all that Necrocanis is always interested in dead catfishes. He dissects them, studies them, and mounts their skeletons for his scientific interests. Just place the cat in a freezer and shoot him a PM. He'll pay for shipping. More than likely too late for this cat and I would not know if 14" is big enough for Necrocanis' purposes. That's why I said "reminder".

Any size is fine. Tnx for the shout out. I mainly want to deal with species that attain adult size of more than 12". I can also tell you what sex your fish was and if there was an infection intestinal blockage ect. There is a lot to be learned from our dead pets. As for the 2 tsn that acted similar to what is shown in this wels they both appeared to have had infections in their air bladders. Type of infection unknown.
