tad late now but how old were they?
you do know they go brack (and once you go brack you don't go back,)
also the teeth never stop growing , and if they don't eat snails or shelly things their teeth will overgrow and make it so they can't eat, you litterally have to file or cut them.
possibility?

ps. if your breeding gubbies you should throw one or two in with your puffer from time to time they can be mighty wickedly viscious bite them in half ha fun to watch this bulky inflated baloon of a fish chase a guppy
