Dec Comm Update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jardiniboy, the extra foam in front of the pumps is very fine and thick, it collects massive amount of fine particles and waste, the reason I use the foam is that is easy to clean and re-usable. The foam at the beginning of the filter is large porosity and collect big waste before the bio balls. Nitrates in the tank are now down to 20 mg/L and still dropping slowly:) . The sulfur reactor is denitrating 40 gallons a day:headbang2 and only been running for 4 weeks. I had used coil type before, I must have done something wrong because everytime it started to work they would plug off. If I build another one I think I will use large hose, and maybe 2 Aqualifter pumps in series for extra pumping power.

Just for fun here's a few pics of the filter.

Thanks for the update bro and HNY to you too! :D

I have my 2 coil denitrators running off a dedicated powerhead from my sump. They're set at about 1 drop per second (each one that is), but I'm not sure if they're working yet cos I don't have any test kits..

I believe in more passive methods of testing water ... appetite ... coloration (both for the fish that is) ... foam on the surface ... etc. I did recently take a water sample in a an LFS to be tested and it came back with the slightest trace of nitrites and zero nitrates! I'm not too sure about the nitrate test though.. They open a very old looking box and I think they had never done one before.

Maybe some day I'll buy my own test kits.. :D
