With the leaves, they're treated and boiled Indian Almond leaves (Terminalia catappa), unfortunately I couldn't find any oak leaves over here. I've torn them up. They've only been in for a couple of weeks so when they get to the stage where they've disintegrated I'll let you know what I do with them, although theres a good chance that I'll just leave them in there as they'll probably just mix with the substrate.
Chocolate is 7", and that mouth is definitely big enough to fit those S. leucosticta juveniles into it, but he never even looks at them if that's an indicator for what they're like in communities. He used to 'chase' (he's a bit big.. and slow..) my Siamese Algae Eaters when they were smaller to try and eat them I believe but never had any luck.
Nice as always mate, love those leucos. I don't see them around much, only jurupari which I can't seem to keep alive for whatever reason (could be my local water).
Sounds about right with the chocolate, mine is a chaser as well. Now that my severums are getting closer to his size he's started chasing them, but he never does any damage. Maybe just luck though, he did beat the hell out of the little oscar I gave to Cam.
The Chocolate does his own thing unless someone has a shot at food that he's declared as his, the chasing was just for the SAE that he thought he could eat, if he could catch them, which he most definitely can't
Amazing aquarium! Did you order your Geophagus altifrons online? If you did, please share! I'd love to get one just like it. Not sure if you are located in the states or not. Great photography as well, I'm envious .
