Decholoring Question..

Just remember that when filling direct from the tap to treat for the whole tank and not just the amount that your replacing.
When the dose goes into the tank it`s a certain amount of prime for X amount of impurities in a certain volume of water. So when you add those impurities to a larger volume you will need the extra prime to be able to cover that volume and not the amount of water replaced... If that makes any sense??

It`s 1 to many beers on a sat night and i`m short on the right phrasing but i`ll be better tomorrow.. lol :)

If you put the water back into the tank the treatment will then have to stretch twice as far which is different than neutralizing different amounts in a specified volume. Imagine if the treatment was dye and if you add X amount to X amount of water it will change it`s colour. If you then add the same amount to 2xX of water you will need twice as much dye or the colour will be diluted and will not have the desired effect...
That`s just how i see it anyway and in my book it`s always better to be sure....

Took a while but i knew i`d work out what i meant... :)

It makes sense, much clearer when you've had a few though
Like a dork I bought a small bottle of Prime (still in that small tank mentality) and had to count like 100 drops :screwy: Geezzz!!

I am lazy, and havent setup my drip yet, but here is what I do have setup. I have a 50 Gallon trash can, hooked to the water line on a float valve, and a ball valve. when its full I turn off the water with the ball valve, treat the 50 gallons, then use that water to do WC on all my tanks. Basicly after I finish my water changes the 50 gallons is empty I turn the ball valve back on and go about my business, next week come add prime and do a wc.

i've heard prime is much stronger than you actually need. Like prime for ponds for example. Same liquid, but dose is different.

When I refill with the python I dose for the amount of water I am replacing and add it prior to adding the new water. I haven't had any problems doing it this way. Given that water change day for me involves replacing somewhere around 400 gallons of water though I try to use my dechlorinator sparingly to avoid running into huge chemical costs.

Prime is 5ml for 50gallons, i`m not sure if that`s us or uk gallons though.
