Decided to get a BGK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea, i have a 55g tank for now, it's already cycled with SeaChem Stability. from what i've read on here, 55 should be good for a while as they are slow growers.

and to clarify, the question about height, is about how tall the BGK is, not long.
thanks

i have one. he's one of my favorite fish. they can be very active. mine is a pig. he can swim upside down, backwards and bumps into other fish. they're kind of acrobatic in a clumsy manner. i have him in a 55 gal with a clown knife and a few other tank mates. the bgk sort of runs the tank. i'd describe them as gorgeous freaks of nature.

i have a pair of 10" bgks in a 55gal for now...i would agree that 3" in hight is not right at max size...i have seen a 20" with the 4-5" hight...i haven't had any problems with jumping...though i have always had them in with other fish that jump so i have had tight tops...keep the water clean with enough filtration and you should be ok...it will take a while to out grow the 55gal...gl...

my BGK once ran the tank too... Now he's gone. :(
im not trying to be a d$%k or anything .. and im not trying to pick on you so you know ..

wanted to clear that up since i have argued everything you have said ...

just dont want him to pick up a fish he cant keep ..

i have a royal clown knife that the LFS told me would get 12" he is now 18" and still growing strong ...

you can never trust MOST lfs! most of the people working there know very little about fishes...infact at my lfs i id most of the orders that come in as i have timing and get there at the same time as the order and the person working doesn't know a gourami from a german ram...

yea, i've read that often on this site. and i'm not one to jump into something without knowing what i'm getting myself into so i definitely do my research before buying. i may be new at this but it pains me everytime i see someone post that they bought a fish they can't properly care for

I say at MINIMUM a 75g. They do grow slow so it will last for years. As stated...they can grow over 20" in the wild and rarely seem to go over 18" and I want to say that most people here with large BGK are around 16" At that length, they can get about 4"-5" tall. Stick with a weekly water change...it's always the best;) Fragile...I don't really find these guys fragile, but I guess "fragile" is subjective. Like most fish, they're probably tough to raise at a very small size (1"-3"). And I haven't really heard of any "jumpers" from anyone.
