After all kinds of going back and forth and deciding... then undeciding... then deciding again... I've finally made the FINAL decision on my 33 gallon flat back hex. LOL...

I'm going to go with a cichlid I have never kept before. I'm gonna go with a pair (or group of juvies to grow out a pair) of rainbow cichlids, maybe 10 tiger barbs, a BN (or other dwarf) pleco, and some cories.

What do you all think? Sounds like decent plan?

I've actually considered those before, but you know what? Common as they are, I have never kept tiger barbs. Always kinda liked them, but could never find a suitable setup for them. So I am hoping this is a setup that could work out. But honestly, I've always liked how the look. So maybe this is a chance to finally get some.

Ya, a 30g should work out great. You could also consider some otocinclus catfish (they only get 2" max size and are peaceful) for your bottom dwellers. You could also consider cherry barbs, green tiger barbs, hexazon barbs, powder blue dwarf gouramis, flame dwarf gouramis, and honey dwarf gouramis

I got some tiger barbs recently, and I also felt the same that they were pretty cool and would be fun to watch. However, now they are just a dither fish, and are pretty boring in my eyes. Ever consider Rams? Very neat little fish, maybe give those a try?

Been there and done that with rams. Thanks for the suggestion though! The Rainbow Cichlids will definitely be the stars of the tank, and I don't necessarily want a fish that will outshine them.

I say the tiger barbs! i had 6 of them until my crayfish cleared them out and they were hilarious to watch! Always battling for leadership of the school. Love the orange on them too it really pops under the light! I was actually just thinking about getting a pair of Rainbow's for a free 30g i just got off craigslist! If your pair has fry im first in line to get some =)
