ok so i have a 5 gallon tank and cant decide if i should add a betta into the tank or keep looking around for a dwarf puffer. This tank has alot of java fern in it and is lit with a 27 watt desk light. The current inhabinants are 3 cardnial tetras used to help cycle the tank. What do you think i should do, betta or dwarf puffer?

betta's are the most useless boring fish in the world. My girlfriend loves hers but it doesn't do anything it takes no work they are decoartions. My snails are nocturnal and I see them move way more than the dumb betta. Betta's are nice for 10 year olds who aren't going to feed clean or be able to understand keeping a real fish. Get something fun hold out for the puffer or go inverts as mentioned above.

dwarf puffer. They are to cute. i had one once that my littl buddy he would always watch me throughout the room wondering what i was doing....well more like if i was going to feed him :P

I don't know about dwarf puffers... Don't they require some salt when they get bigger (like green spotted puffers)? This may affect the plants.
I'll choose the betta... They are far more beautiful. They can get quite interactive too. I hand fed mine.
Perhaps you can get a female too for breeding or *just to watch them spawn*.
However, i'd be skeptical about cycling the tank with cardinals...:irked:
They are not hardy enough to stand that, and they are expensive here!!!
Use white clouds, danios or guppies to do the job. I use guppies, there's too much of them in my aquaria.

dwarf puffers require no salt at all... they are not GSP's... and when they get bigger (at 1 inch) then they will still not need salt. lol so i guess they are my vote. they are so cute and fun and would love a nice planted 5g (well planted/decor)

a single dwarf puffer if your gonna have amazing filtration, but if not then get a cherry shrimp colony going
