Ok, I hate at start another thread but..... My water is cloudy on the flower tank I believe because my main pump keeps turning off then trying to kick back on. After a few attempts it will turn back on.
Wondering if a pump failure could put electrical currents in my water, enough to mess with the flower ray.
Skynoch and DW both talked about this In my flower thread.

My sump is running off of 2 pumps a 900 gph and the main one 2300 gph. To test and see and until I order a new one would I have issues if I go from 3100 gph to 900? I could unplug the single pump and still run the system

Yes a pump failure can send stray current to the tank.

One thing that you can do is to run a ground probe from the tank to a big ground (your ground port onthe receptacle wall)

You can just run the 900 gph and add a few powerheads inside the tank to move some water.

water clarity definatly IMO Turn over is key to clarity as far as your BB"s and such might hurt a little might even help slowin everything down some guys are big believers in slowin it down.......Maybe that is your cloudy issue .....You run internal pumps???

My pumps are in my sump. A quiet 1 and a rio.

When a pump is turned off it has always clouded the tank for a 1/2 or so as I figured crud would come off the pipes or stuff that has settled in sump.

The pump was not shutting off for long I don't think. Just for a few seconds then would restart

I've measured 50+ AC in my tanks. Never had it effect appetites, BUT haven't kept Flowers or Tiggers before.

I personally don't believe the voltage will effect the fish unless they are grounded. Kinda like the bird on the power wire deal.

My understanding is that without a ground the volts measured are just potential IF a ground is introduced then it's no longer potential but actual.

I've read enough to know it's a very controversial subject. I deemed it just another variable best left overlooked. Tried running ground probes, tried without. Saw no change in fish's behavior, just a change on the multimeter numbers and if I had to stand on styrofoam or not.... ;)

Hmmm interesting. That makes since.
I'll try anything.

The part that made me nervous is the fact that supposedly if the fish travels througfh the path of least resistance from the stray voltage source to the ground probe it would get lit up.

I guess if your pump is in the sump might as well huck a probe in right next to it. Voltage potential is gone and no fish will travel through that path.

Downside.... enough current and circuit breaker/fuse trips/blows. No biggie if you're at home. That puts a damper in the workin man's day.

Replace the iffy pump? Small investment (and the iffy one you can always keep as a backup). At the least, give it a good clean to see if you can get it to quit quittin'. But personally if I had iffy equipment on a ray tank it'd be gone.

Get a good durable pump. My personal favorite is Eheim. BTW a faster flow rate does not mean a clearer tank.

I have a 1264 emeim running at 4600lph and a 2000lph powerhead handling a bioload of 1.2kg of food a day in a 6x4x2 tank.
