Decreasing TOR? possible failure in pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Get a good durable pump. My personal favorite is Eheim. BTW a faster flow rate does not mean a clearer tank.

I have a 1264 emeim running at 4600lph and a 2000lph powerhead handling a bioload of 1.2kg of food a day in a 6x4x2 tank.

wow that is not that much TOR. I will order a new pump today, i will keep this one as a back up... this is why i am running 2 pumps instead of 1 incase of a failure..

I would have expected if the stray voltage was causing my problem it would have gotten better after shutting it off last night. No change this morning....

I gave up on submersables after the discovery of stray voltage....

External won't have any stray voltage and you get less heat transfer. Less maintainance and most of all better efficiency. I haven't found but a handfull of pumps that outperform a Dart based on efficiency. None of them outperform when cost is factored in as most are well over double, some even triple the price.

The plus side is that i dont run heaters on my sumped tank :)... but i have only had a rio and a quiet one last 2 years so far. THe quiet one is far from quiet, it was terrible, so i am glad it failed time to order a new one.

I just ordered another pump, BUT from looking around (i am cheap) i always look at watts, and the external looked less efficient?

Maybe flowrates play a part? I never looked at anything under like 2500 GPH.

When I bought my pond pump I was after the most efficient high output submersable I could find. Winner was a Danner Pondmaster hydrive 4800. This was rated at 280 watts I believe. It lasted 3 years. Thought the service was horrible when I had issues which was very regular for me. High mineral content in the water caused the pump to lock up from deposits several times a year despite maintainance cleanings.

Darts specs are like 3600 gph @ 0 start up is like 170 watts average around 155.

I'm all ears IF you find something better then Darts as I still need to get another pump as buying other people's used garbage has pushed me to no longer trust used pumps.

I use WLim wave pumps I have two on my 675 ...The two are 1/15 Horse and from personal experiance i think they Blow away the reeflow :WHOA:Ya power usage MAX is 1.3 amps ;)for the economy minded guy it's nice and 3000 GPH at 3.4 ft. of head and personaly if you don't choke it down reducing diameter you get more these smallest ones use an emerson spa moter all the larger use Baldor...I have two like i said running my 675 and you can't even hear them running ten feet away....:naughty:Oh i forgot to mention these are produced for outside use on ponds so ya know they are durable ....

Can get a Baldor motor with different impellers for quite a bit less then the Waves on thier site with Reeflo. Would be nice to cut back to 105 watts if you didn't need the 175.

The Waves use emersons as do dolphins so they have to be a good option...

Either are phenominal pumps..... No arguement there.
