Amazing responses! Thanks guys, Knifegill, do keep us updated!!
I'm gonna have my RDSB up and running by in a week or 2 (hopefully)... and hope mine does a decent job.
Atm i'm just using a mini DSB, at 2.5-3", a big batch of Java moss and Hornworts, its doing "OK" at best for my current stock of 39... Will update y'all!

this is great I was thinking about this I might try this when I get my 75 gal. for small catfish and I feel they would like the sand I could plant it up heavy and see how it goes

LOL, dont go too far... remember it's a gradient... just keep an eye on things and dont go too deep: depends on type of sand and depth of sand...

That's the layer under 1" going anaerobic. Will likely turn black over time. Assuming you're referring to the brownish coloration in the sand under about 1" down on the right?

been away for a bit so coming in alittle late.

The front glass sections will always be darker, yes it may the anaerobic zones showing signs of activity, however dont forget that diffusion will be greater at the trailing edges of the glass, that and its also subjected to more light.
