deep sea spurdog in captivity

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, they have been kept in captivity.
The trick is a LOT of horizontal swimming space. Lining the tank walls won't do much to protect them. But you are correct that rubbing the rostrum and damaging the eyes is the most common issue when keeping these (and many other) sharks in captive environments.

Let us know how much space you have to work with, and we can help you set up the tank properly for housing a group of them. They tend to do best in schools.

thanks guys
yes my study will focuse on squalus acanthias, squalus chloroculus and squalus megalops. But Acanthias is now difficult to catch in Australia, easier in Tasmania. And most of my necropsy are about female, but that's may be due to sexual segregation. Any way thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted

For Zoodiver I'll take some picture of my tanks and will let you know exactly the size. Many thanks for your help

Hi guys
I have taken some pictures of my tanks. Animals will be housed in 9000- or 19000- litre round polyurethane tanks. They should be fed on a diet of pilchard and prawn to satiation three times a week . Residual food items will be removed from the tank after feeding to ensure a good water quality. Holding tanks will be cleaned twice a week, the watter will be exchangedcontinuously with neww seawatter via a flow-through system with the water volume replaced every 8 hours. The tanks are continiously aerated.
9000l tanks :diameter: 2,70 m Depth 90 cm
19000l tanks diameter: 4,70 m Depth 1,25 m

Zoodiver I'm looking forward to your advice ;) I have some difficulties to download the pictures so if you want them give me your email adresse and i send them to you

Thanks
Cheers
