deer antlers in tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only draw back that I can see is that they may increase water hardness, but that can easily be countered with a couple of water changes. Good idea though.

With oscars? I dunno, oscars tend to be a bit clumsy, I would avoid anything sharp or pointy with oscars.

Any points that may feel too sharp can be rounded on a regular grinder or with a hand file.

Turn the points down to simulate tree roots and give the fish something to take cover under.

You could do that, personally...I still wouldn't do it. Oscars have an amazing way of hurting themselves on virtually anything.

I've had deer antlers in my 75gal Apisto tank for 3 yrs. They havn't afected the water primes at all. The protein in the antlers is only in them when there alive. The are nothing but dryed up bone after they are removed from the animal. The calsum in them isn't at that huge a level once they've been either sun bleached or boiled.
I took mine off the animal and let them sun dry for 3 years and then mounted them. Now there in the tank. There in a river seting.

how cool would an elk skull be?

You could try the resin cast fake antlers. It wouldn't be any different then resin tank ornaments. I don't think anyway. I've been know to be wrong before.
