Deer Season Opening day

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I went out both days this weekend and froze my buns. I didn't see a single deer. On the upside, we got 3 during the early antlerless only hunt. But the number of hunters is down and the number of deer is up according to the news. We didn't hear nearly as much shooting this year. I think the biggest problem we are encountering is that it rained for a week and a half straight a little while back and the combines were behind schedule. Why does that matter? Right next to our land is 54 acres of standing corn. Over the hill are hundreds more. The deer just go in there and don't come out, and logistically, it is a nightmare to try to hunt cornfields safely.

I miss opening day of whitetail in PA, but I can't complain with the CO elk heard :)

My son just called. He saw several, but nothing worth shooting. He's a "Horn Hunter" at the beginning of the season. I told him, "You can't eat the horn". Horn meaning antler of course.

Yeah I personally dont believe in "horn hunting" as we still have too many deer to deal with and doe & fawn tastes better than bucks anyways.

But in Minnesota, we have slowest firearm season I ever had! Less deer action, less deer hanging but thankfully I had large family who own 8 private lands to hunting on and my sister got her first deer, so this year's hunt not bad. We still have muzzleloader and bow season left till Dec. After the deer, its squirrel and coyote busting time.

I don't know about the fawn. I like doe meat better than buck.

We still have to hunting fawns too as they are capable to have their first fawn next spring. The deer reproduce madly if we dont manage them.

So Duke, you gonna send me some venison? I love deer burgers, but I could never hunt....

here are a couple that are in my back yard every day with around 30 more.

Those pictures make me sick! Ive been hunting every season for over 10 years now and in Alabama, bucks like that big one are VERY rare, Ive only seen one or two but never dropped one that big. Id surely deficate in my pants if a big boy like that walked out and presented himself for a nice shot. :nilly:
