Spangling means any metallic markings that do not create circles. If the spangles are circular, they are called ocellated.

the only cichla that get spangles are usually kelberis, orinos, oceallaris, and tems and most of the other largest species of cichla. all cichlas' body spangles will turn into the fishes adult coloration, usually yellow or chartruese and the only fish that will keep or get spangles on all their fins for life are kelberis. sometimes monos and ocel will get a couple of dots but most lose all.
