I have some deformed N. brevis babies, some of them have round heads, some have parrot fish mouths :( . I was wondering what causes deformities in babies? Is there anything i can do to prevent deformities in my next batch of fry?

maybe the male and female are from the same stock.

They could be deformed. But also maybe the fry hadn't grown enough and hatched too early.

Carl.

could be inbreds (flash back to the deliverence)

Get some new breeding stock.

And this might sound cruel, but in a few weeks the fish that survived and are still deformed looking should be culled (unless you plan on keeping them).

Are there any ways to euthanize them so they don't feel pain?

They are already 1/4" to 1/2"

to eutherixe them put them in a bucket or cup full of vodka, they slip off very quickly

That's what I was thinking. Don't think of it as "culling" or being cruel to the fry, think of it as a joyous occasion (FEEDING FRENZY) as the fry are fulfilling an important roll in their "CIRCLE OF LIFE" (can you hear the back ground singers?) as FEEDER FISH.
