That's what I was thinking. Don't think of it as "culling" or being cruel to the fry, think of it as a joyous occasion (FEEDING FRENZY) as the fry are fulfilling an important roll in their "CIRCLE OF LIFE" (can you hear the back ground singers?) as FEEDER FISH.

Well you are closer,

Put them in Cargs 'O' tank.

Much like LIl_Stinker, I’m just trying to help Fishyfan out of this particular situation. I, like many other fish keepers could be accused of breeding genetically inferior fish now and again (please see my previous post referencing my "convicts" whom I think aren't really convicts-NO THEY AREN’T RUSSIAN SPIES IN DISGUISE EITHER) but they serve a purpose, and are not just accidental “oops’s” in my tanks.

We all just need to have "exit strategy" for the unfortunate genetically "challenged" fry that result, Oscars, Polleni (sometimes), Venustus etc.

My solution has already been alluded to-although I'm currently on the look out for a more efficient piscivore (PEANUT, I'm still looking for CRENICICHLA in my area).

Fishyfan, don't wait to long to find a "solution" to your deformed fry or otherwise unwanted fry. It won‘t get any easier or more pleasant.

Young fry are kind of dumb and not very fast and can easily find their way into a predators gullet, larger and faster fry can be a little more tricky (it's not fun, but sometimes necessary to "handicap" feeder fish-if your Oscar, gar, or other fry-eater who hasn't developed a lightning fast strike-not pretty or recommended).

This would be one reason a very fast pike cichlid would be a welcome addition to my tanks!

i still think u could just plop them in a glass of vodka, if u dont have ne predators that would welcome them;)

I have some deformed N. brevis babies, some of them have round heads, some have parrot fish mouths :( . I was wondering what causes deformities in babies? Is there anything i can do to prevent deformities in my next batch of fry?

let them live

what makes you think they are suffering?

because they dont look normal?

what kinda crapola is that?

if they can function like a normal fish can then they very much deserve to live.

btw is the whole batch deformed?

what did you do with them once they where born?

I never said i thought they were suffering, its just i dont have the tank space to raise 10-15 deformed brevis.

and i cant really tell if it was a whole spawn that was deformed or a few fish from each spawn are becoming deformed as i have about 4 spawns being raised together. I didnt do anything with them when they were born, left them in the tank with the parents and once the babies got bigger, i removed the parents from the tank. I am doing weekly 50% water changes and feeding 5 times a day.

I am not sure I would drink it after that, sounds like a wasted martini.
