A what?

Almost like a mix between a chinchilla and rat

I kept them in the past neat little critters. They are related too chinchillas and have a smilair dieet. Foods with sugar are bad for them as they get diabetic, A good food designed for degus should be staple along with plenty of hay and material too chew on. they need be kept in a sturdy cage any plastic they can get their teeth on will be destroyed. Bonding two strange degus is very difficult if not impossible so if you plan of keeping two i would buy them at the same time.

I agree if you are going to get 2 do it right now. They are a social animal and would do best to get a pair.

Also unless you want lots of them get 2 female or 2male.

We used to keep them and if gotten young enough are very easy to socialize.

I was under the impression that females will bond together just fine. I mean obviously you don't just toss them in together and let it be but with a little work I think it can be done. At this point I really only want one.... Also the store I am getting it from has agood degu staple diet for them.

it can actually be quite difficult to bond them when one is bought later on. Just buy both now, its much easier on everyone and degus are usually very unhappy when alone, even if it is just for a bit.

degus are great if you get them young and they must have a buddy or two, make sure they cant chew any of the plastic as they will destroy it, my guys loved their wheel and hollowed out logs, not to mention dust baths and timothy hay

Got my little girl! She is adorable and so inquisitive. Very nice and curious little goo. She is loving the nice big cage too.
