Skip the bloodworms. Carnivore sinking pellets( I use hiakari sinking gold) and earthworms for treats. Don't feed feeder fish unless u plan to never add fish as tank mates.

for a 5"er I would keep the bloodworms in the diet.

They like to have poly friends so I would buy more than one and they love plants. They can live 30+ years so make a friend of them.

They love a sand bottom. 50 pounds of pool filter sand is under $10 at hardware store. Menards, lowes, home depot, etc.

I have that covered, already going to purchase sand. Any care tips? First time I kept bichirs before.

you don't have to just feed bloodworms though. When I feed my tank earthworms I also feed bloodworms for the guys that can't take down a whole earthworm. Even if they can take it down some don't like earthworms and prefer bloodworms.
