So I called my LFS today and asked if they had any polys in, and he said he had a 5-6" delhezi for $55, and a couple palmas for $13 but they were 3-4". My question is, is that price reasonable? He said that it had some real nice stripes going up into the finnage, I haven't seen it myself yet but I plan on going up tomorrow to check them out. Would any of you pay that price?

Where it currently stands, it is the only non-chain fish store within an hour, and no one locally keeps these guys as I'm pretty active on the forums around here, but I fell in love with these guys after looking for a suitable tank mate for my GT (f'n JDs are bein a PitA and have to go) that would look impressive and unique for when ppl stop by that would be a show stopper with my GT. My GT is only 4.5" approx. Idk where else I'd be able to get something as rare as a delhezi anywhere else.

Feel free to ask for more details, as I am pretty excited to see this guy, and will be up for a while b/c I've been pounding coffee like a mofo. :nilly:

Also, what do I look for in differences between delhezi and endli? seems to be lots of confusion. Head shape? Delhezi have a longer upper jaw?

EDIT: I did use the search before someone says it, but all the posts are old and not a lot of help with time constantly changing prices etc. Just looking for opinions and info.

del is way overpriced but the palmas is about right

A shop near me had an 8-9" one for $50 but it wasn't a very nice looking one. So $55 is a little high but if it is a really good looking one I would pay that price.

Price is all about location I bought 3 delhezi for 60 each at 4". Never seen palmas except online

could it seem overpriced b/c you're in cali? Everything seems cheaper over there in terms of fish haha. I honestly doubt I'll find one anywhere else, midwest seems like a black hole for fish imo, and online...the shipping is so pricey for a single fish...

Is black in the fin area normal for a del? I specifically remember him saying that there is some in the fins.

Also, do palmas have some good coloring like a del? and are they as (seemingly, from what I read) active?

I don't know much about Wisconsin fish market, but I'm guessing that the del is priced about right for your location. I just picked up a palmas polli (at least that's what some of the members believe it is). Here is a pic

It is only about 5" but it might be a short bodied. Anyway, right now it is very active.

i guess it really does depend on were you are in that case i have no idea if its a good price or not

imo all palmas have a nice pattern but there are 3 different types so it really depends on which palmas you are getting

It's overpriced IMO but if you dont see Dels often then it might be good....I'd be willing to bet the "palmas" is not a palmas at all and is just a senegal if you see no pattern on them it is a Senegal many Vendors out there will label them as Palmas Bichir (happens alot with WC Senegal)

If you have the money and space you can get it....Dels have the same head as a senegal so when you go their look at the "palmas" and the "del" if it has the same head shape you do have a del but if it is different than it is a Endli GL

I don't think it is unreasonable, it always depends on where you live and how many fish they can sell. I have NEVER seen any palmas complex in a local fish store, and I have been to some big baller ones. I have only seen endli, ornate, delhezi, and of course senegal. If it is nice and cheaper than paying shipping for one, I'd buy it if I wasn't trying to get rid of 2 of my 5. haha

Just an update, I went ahead and got the del...paid $50 but I think it's worth it, already got my brother eating his words about how my "goldfish" aren't interesting :headbang2 haha. Plus it's the only store easily within an hour that has anything remotely decent. Talked him down 5 bucks! haha. Some pics:
