Okay, I went to feed my grow out tank and found my 5" Delhezi with its head stuck about an inch in the substrate. Any thoughts as to what this means? Has anyone seen this behavior before? I have not seen it in the year I have been keeping Polys.

Check out the "identifying normal behaviors..." thread that is stickied.

I personally haven't seen it with my poly but it may be the small gravel substrate I'm using. Not sure if it's a species specific behavior, I have a senegalus, or if thay only do it with the proper substrate.

I feed mine live worms sometimes and they will shift through the sand to pull out the worms. Maybe he is going after burrowing snails?

My two dels used to spend a lot of time completely buried under the sand. Only the tips of their noses would be visible. There are two reasons they do it. Either they want to feel more secure, or they're trying to ambush prey. Since adding my 4 laps to the tank they stopped burying themselves.
