Please do not do this. A Tex and a Dempsey will not live long at all in a 30. The Tex will most likely attack the Dempsey in such small quarters. A 30 is way to small for a Dempsey alone. Upgrade to at least a 55 and then you could start thinking about adding other fish.
 
Plese re- think this. A 30 gallon is not big enough for a JD alone. Positive or not, they get to 8", it will outgrow that tank and you will have a tunted fish. I would not add anything. A texas would destroy your JD and they get to 14", they need a 55 gallon. Just being honest and trying to help you for future problems.
