I have a 65 gallons tank (36*18*24) presently housing a 4 inches female Jack dempsey. I was wandering if I could find her some tankmates or if the tank is already full. I really like Green terrors but I know it would be like running after trouble.

Do you have any suggestions ?

No GT, needs at least a 4 foot long tank (footprint is very important)

Here are some good options for you:
1. Convicts
2. Firemouths
3. Blue Acara

You could also try a Texas, but it will probably grow out of that tank eventually.

65 gallons leaves plenty of space for more fish as long as you have adequate filtration. Footprint is definitely the name of the game. A tall, columnar tank wont do the trick but a normal tank will be great.

geos are too passive for the most part.

Try some research on your own.

Use google or the search here to find info and read about JDs & possible tank mates.

They have been around for 75+ yrs as pets and there is tons of info on them all over the web.

Heres a starting point:

This is interesting and helpful. I will probably go with the blue acara. Thanks.

id say stick w/ firemouth or convict... my female dempsey goes apesh*t sometimes and goes After everyone so u might have to go w/ trial and error

yeah a 65g really isnt that much room, especially with it being only 36" long, blue acara might look too similar and it might attack it, you would prolly have better luck with a con or FM but like stated, its really just trial and error with cichlids with finding tankmates that they will accept

My jd and gt are starting to beat each other up pretty good in a 90. Theyll be moving into a 300 next week. I think any fish is gonna get picked on pretty good with a dempsey in a 3' tank. You never know, but cichlids like their space......
