I have 125g tank I do 50% water changes every 2-3weeks and my nitrates stay around 40 I am unable to increase freq of water changes do life restrictions I would like to add a denitrator to my tank and reduce my water changes to about every 4 weeks
Has anyone used any of these systems and what is most recommended Korallin BioDenitrator Nitrate Filter S-1502 w/ Eheim 1048 Pump looks nice but I'm not sure if they are safe for freshwater
Thanks

I have canister filters and have tried the plants in the tank and hated the look and they messed up my tank lid fit and my light where you couldn't open the lid to feed the fish

I use purigen for nitrate control.

Thick thick thick layer of substrate will often do it (4-5inches). But along with thick substrate make sure you have no air pumps or surface agitation. With hob's make sure the water level is high enough so it doesnt create any air when outputting water back into the tank. Canisters, make sure the output is below the water level but high enough so you get ripples at the top of the water.

What your trying to do is limit the oxygen in the tank so you dont establish aerobic bacteria. You want anaerobic bacteria that doesnt uses a very minimal amount dissolved oxygen.

There is a scientific explanation but it would take a more effort than its worth I'm afraid. So lower oxygen and keep thick substrate.
